    mine isnt the macro version, so minumun focal distance is like four feet from the end of the lens.. still works "ok"

    al the best with it. i'm loving mine.
    not sure aboutthe Tamron one, but the nikkor sharpness is really poor at wide open.
    from f/8-f/11 it looks good.

    bigest challenge i found was keeping the shutterspeeed high enough to eliminate hand shake @ the 300mm end.
    so now i have to sit at iso400- iso800 allot of the time.

    LOL! And hell no about the bill! As it is I used the "Bill Me Later" feature on B&H, lol. Don't have to pay for that puppy till August. When's your new toy coming?
