i'd go for the 50mm at f/2.8-3.5 (roughly)
any smaller if the kids arent at exactly the same distance from the lens one wil be out of focus. 3.5 is probably good.
if they are still and close together open it up.
you shouldnt have a problem with noise on the D90 in daylight ..ever.
check your iso setting.set to about 400-800 and that should be more than enough.

    all the best

Hey there! I need help! I'm so new at this and loving photography (it's been a dream of mine to master it!) but I ran into a problem last weekend with my second official photo shoot - noise and blur. I prefer to shoot in aperture priority but I think I've messed up my settings. I have a shoot tomorrow where I'll be photographing two small children outdoors on a semi-cloudy day. I have a Nikon D90 (kit with 18-105mm lens) and I also bought the 50mm 1.4, which worked beautifully for my first newborn shoot. I'm so nervous about tomorrow! Can you give me some tips as to what settings I should use and which lens? Again, I'll be working with two small children outdoors on a semi-cloudy day, with my Nikon D90. Help!! Thank you SO much!
