Remember to start out with a "save as" so you do not destroy your original and work in layers, saving your image in a format that saves in layers so you can go back and tweek.

While PS will keep a history of what you did, Elements does not. I find it helpful to change the name of layers to what I did to the layer. Helps if I want to replicate what I did. Also helps in the learning process.

Good luck and let me know how it goes...

Also, google what you want to do with PS and you will get plenty of hits. Go to YouTube and googlephotoshop tutorials and you will find plenty there as well....great if you are a visual learner. I will have PS open and will pause the tutorial,go to ps and do the step, then go back to the tutorial....a second monitor would be great for this.

As for seminars/online classes for photography, depends on what you are trying to learn. Again, google the terms and see what comes up. Check out the bookstores (again, don't forget the periodicals section, I found a good manual for my specific camera there). I also found an on-line "how to use" for my camera on a non-nikon site that simplified things a lot.

Bottom line with PS is that you get the best results if you use it a lot. Keep your books close by and practice what you are wanting to do. Go back to older photos and try something new.

    HI Heather.

Get a book on Photoshop for your version of Photoshop/Elements. Anything by Scott Kelby is excellent. There are others out there as well. Go to a bookstore (or library) and see what is there and what seems usable to you before buying. Also check out the periodicals section in the bookstore....I have picked up a couple of one-edition-only "special volumns" published by a British magazine company that have been very useful. Included a CD of photos and tutorials so could follow along step-by-step.

CoffeeShop Free PS/PSE Actions! is a wonderful resource for tutorials and actions/templates/etc for photoshop. She is reasonably clear, but the concepts are a little advanced, but achievable if you have some familiarity with the program.

Hey Anne! I don't know if I am sending this message the correct way but you fixed a picture for me on one of my post and you were wonderful at taking the time to explain exactly how you did things.

I read your blog. I have always loved taking pictures and just recently got my first DSLR. I have alot to learn both behind the camera and in PP. I see where you use Photoshop. I have Photoshop Elements 7 and Photoshop 7. I am terrible at navigating through these programs. Can you point me in a direction of where I can get some help with using these programs. I have a book I bought recently and it helped some, just checking to see what other options are out there.

Also, any suggestions on seminars or online classes for photography. I am a hand on, visual learner.

    Thanks,

    Heather
