Default First Macro post.

More fall shots 013
This is my first post for Macro. I use a Sony DSC-H1. I am limited to a 2 foot focal distance, but do the best I can, with what I have. This image was post processed in Photo Explosion. I just downloaded "G.I.M.P.", but haven't figured it out yet. From what I've heard, I should be able to greatly improve some of my shots, using G.I.M.P. Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The stamen looks a bit blown out or out of focus. But you did a wonderful shot anyway and a great job filling the frame.. What caused the shine on petals?

FocalFrenzy,

Looks like a few inches back might have put you in focus on center, it's just about sharp. With all sunlight on it, the shine might not appear. Beautiful color; including the bit of green is a good contrast and shows shape and limit of flower size. Did you use a tripod and do you wear glasses?

I used a tripod. I don't wear glasses, although at my age, maybe I should. The wind was blowing so hard that I had to shoot this several times to catch it where I wanted it. I'm not sure what caused the highlights on the petals. They did not show up on my camera's display. I did notice some bruising at the edges of the petals, probably due to frostbite. Does anyone know if this could be the cause of the highlights?

Wow - looking at it up close in your flickr, it looks like ice!... maybe a bit of a bump on the old focus and you're away.

FocalFrenzy,

Your flash firing is a more likely cause for the shiny streaks; frostbite tends to go brown. The tripod is always a good idea, and since you mentioned wind that can be your main focus problem. I ask about glasses because that also can lead to uncertain focus. So on a clear calm day, this will be an easier shot.
