I assume focus DOF etc is fine but is the sunlight hitting the flower too distracting - what could I do about it? Should I crop it slightly to lose the light on the leaves to the right of it?

It is basically a nice shot of a rose. There are a couple of spots that are blown out by the direct sun light, you could have used an umbrella or reflector to block that light from the image. If it were my shot I think I would crop it to be square.
