Default Nikon Wireless Flash System

Hi,
I'm getting the hang of my D40x and would like to experiment with some off-camera flash. I have the Nikon SB 600 that I've been using on my camera so far.
Now, I know Nikon has the SU 800, but from the reviews I've read I understand that distance is a bit of a shortfall here. I would like to hear what people use, or are we all waiting for the PocketWizard to come out in January 2010?
Thanks,
F

Most people are probably using Cactus V4 or Cybersync radio triggers (possibly RadioPopper JrXs). No iTTL, but no required line-of-sight and no worries about triggering outside in the sunshine.

The SU-800 indoors won't give you too many problems--it'll have the same kind of distance and efficacy as your tv remote.

I am using a Nikon D300 with two SB-900s and the Creative Lighting System built in. It is all wireless and controlled right from the camera. Using a softbox and/or umbrella's give me great lighting with very little effort on my part.

nice.. but the D40 doesnt have built in CLS

i can vouch for Cactus V4's.. i think they are really good.. (they actually work and fit my budget)
they do the job anywhere.
if the budget allows, buy higher up the foodchain ...like a Cybersync.. higher build quality etc etc. i'd expect them to last longer.

but remember in terms of price...
if you buy a Pocketwizard with one speedlight, and you get hooked on off camera flash,
you'll buy more flashes and thus more PW's are required .....suddenly PW's become a very expensive system.

Thank you all, I gone for the cheapest option to start with and just ordered the Cactus V4 set.... price is fantastic! Will let you know my findings once I've started playing with it.
