Default Capturin amnient light and flash

I'm reposting an earlier question in this new thread.
I've been reading, here at DPS, about techniques on how to capture ambient light and at the same time using flash for main source.
Most discussions recommend exposing using Aperture priority mode @f8, then switching to Manual, stopping down 1-2 EV, then using flash. This might set the shutter speed @ 1/250s or 1/125s.
My question is, since I use the in-camera flash (TTL), should I set the flash mode to slow/rear sync instead of the default front-curtain sync?

I appreciate any advice.
Thanks.

If the camera is in manual exposure mode, and if the flash in in TTL, then all using rear synch will do is cause the flash to fire at the end of the exposure - which will help make any motion look more natural. But, it will not change how your flash and ambient are balanced.

Using rear synch should have no impact if your subject doesn't move.

Hope this helps.

The only practical use for your on-board flash is to add fill when making outdoor portrats

Thanks chip and ken for the replies.
Yeah, I've been looking for a Speedlight so hopefully I can get that soon.
