Question Lighting equipment for first time user

I would like to find what sort of lighting I can use for indoors especially at wedding receptions where it's usually dark and just horrible to work with.

Your choices include
camera mounted flash
off camera flash
studio strobes
continuous lighting including video lighting
a combination of the above
and even just the existing lighting with a fast lens and high iso

Given the above, what are your requirements for equipment?

As Zona 5101 suggested, you have several options-- but if you have not used lighting equipment before, I would suggest an on-camera flash. One that tilts and swivels, so that you can use walls and ceiling for a light source. Make sure you have a diffuser for it, in case you need one.
