Ok , I have a question regarding lights. I go to arenas where they have pro wrestling shows (wwe), and when they have Monday Night Raw, they have the huge LCD or LED(i dont know what kind of lights it is) sign over the entrance ramp that says RAW in red. But , when i take the picture, it looks washed out( i dont know if thats the right term) and it looks more orange / yellowish in the picture. Is there special settings for electronic lighting like that..? How do i ensure true color as i see it?

I find that electronic signs of all types generally under / overexpose a bit depending on the metering mode and can wash things out. Try underexposing the sign a bit.
In the event that it's not overexposure, it could simply be your white balance is off. If you shoot in RAW this is easy to correct, but if not, you'll have to play with your in-camera white balance settings until it looks right. |

O.K. I uinderstand the white balance pretty well,(im still not experienced at changing it to get specific results i guess i just have to experiment..) but, and i probably know this by another term, but what is the metering mode?

Metering mode is the method in which your camaera measures light.

I don't know if this is your issue, but here's a brief explanation on metering modes: If you're using your camera's automatic metering (i.e. light-measuring) capabilities and letting it decide the aperture and shutter speed settings, then it may be exposing for the average light in the scene. If the sign you're photographing is really bright relative to the rest of the image in the frame, then the camera may overexpose the sign because it's taking into account the dark parts of the frame too. You can likely change metering modes so that the camera exposes for center of the frame (vs. an average). |
