Default White balance for firelight

Thinking about experimenting with some close-up portrait shots with a fireplace or firepit as my only light source. Any suggestions as to what white balance setting I should start with?

That depends - do you want white's to look neutral in firelight? or do you want the image to look like it was shot in firelight?

In the first case, I would go about using custom white balance - and get a neutral target like a grey card, if you don't have one of those - and aren't really really picky, you can use another white object - it might not be neutral, but it may be close enough.

In the second case - I would recommend using the sunny day white balance for starters - and possibly tweak in raw, but that should leave a very nice warm look
