Light Blubs...??

A couple of days ago I wanted to do some still life photography, but when it came to lighting the scene I found that the light blub in my desk lamp had an orange glow to it... This might sound like a stupid question, but is there a different type of light bulb that will have a white glow rather than an orange one...??

Different light sources have different colors - our eyes and brain adjust so we don't see the color cast like our cameras. Your camera (may) have a selectable setting for color balance. This setting accounts for the different color tempretures of light. Sunlight is around 5500 degrees kelvin and shooting in sunlight will render the colors correctly but using an incandecent light source with a color temp around 2800-3400 degrees kelvin will give that orange color shift. This is true with flourecent bulbs too which give off (typically) a green cast.

I'm pretty sure there are "daylight" bulbs that are closer to 5k on the Kelvin scale, but why do all that when you can simply adjust the white balance setting in your camera to compensate for that light?
