softbox troubles

ok yall, I just put together my new light and softbox in my upstairs studio..How do I use the darn thing ??? everytime I shoot the pic comes out way way tooo light !!!! what am I doing? is their something I need to know..

you have to put camera on manuel mode. ISO about 50, stop at 250th and adjust fstops

Kim, is it a strobe, or constant light source? What are your camera settings? How close to the subject? I'm far from an expert on lighting...just started playing with it myself with a borrowed Alien Bee 400W strobe.

It is a strobe..about 41/2 feet from subject..

My best luck with Susan's light (and we all know who she is..haha) was on the same camera you have, manual mode, 125th sec, ~F/8, and played with the light output until we got it right. Example Below of that very Susan. This was a one light / with softbox setup and reflector camera left

Camera:	Nikon D300
Exposure:	0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture:	f/8.0
Focal Length:	55 mm
ISO Speed:	320
Exposure Bias:	0 EV

aperture controls the flash, shutterspeed controls the ambient... iso affects both

how you adjust this depends on if you're using TTL or manual flash.
what flash are you using, TTL or manual
what settings was the camera on?
what setting was the flash on?
