Why do you need a modeling light... I don't get why people get so dependent on theses. All you do is like what David hobby does go look down the barrel of the flash. then you know where the light will go.. You use flags and snoots and grids to limit the light spill.

Here is my current setup I think its up to date. I still need to buy another cactus receiver and another umbrella bracket to have a 3 light setup.

Did I go crazy? Am I a lighting addict?

Default SB 600 for my Nikon D5000

So, I just started reading about strobist lighting b/c I will be doing headshots on location and don't want to carry around equipment. I need lots of input on how to set up the headshot, aim the light and do they make a sync cord longer than 3 feet for my camera and flash? I would like to tripod the flash. I only have one. But only 3 ft. to work with.
Help!

The nikon ttl sync cord(cant remember the name sc-28, sc-29?) can be daisy chained together to get extra length.

If you are not using TTL you can by a PC sync cord 15ft and a hot shoe to household adapter that is required to connect the sb-600 to the pc sync cord. This is the setup when I first started strobing off-camera.

sync cord Paramount - Household to Hot Shoe #HS-15S - Straight - 17HS15S -

hot shoe to household Wein - HSH Hot Shoe to Household Adapter - W990335 - B&H Photo
