2 Still Life with Wine and Smoking Implements Pieter Claesz oil painting for sale and art paintings reproduction
It's a "Braizer"..... that the Europeans of the 17th Century used to collect fireplace embers for lighting their pipes . You wouldn't have had matches so the wood stove or fireplace was the source of fire to light a candle or pipe. This brazier was the way to move fire from room to room. These pictured exotics: tobacco, fruit, wine, porcelain, pepper...were brought by the seafarers to Holland and Europe in the early days of ocean shipping. Dutch East India Company: big business of its day. The Captain's Quarters pictured here. f/20, ISO 160, 85mm lens, for 47 seconds exposure in a dark studio. Lit the brazier coals and opened the shutter, brushed light on the rest of scene with a spotlight and 5 seconds of incandescent light. Some spot reflected off a mirror camera right.
