Default Bed Jumping

I occasionally travel for work and, a few weeks ago, found myself in a boring town in Southern Missouri. This provided a good opportunity to test a suspension shot I have seen previously online.

I set my D700 on a travel tripod, pointed toward my hotel bed. My 24-70 2.8 lens was set to f/6.3 and zoomed all the way out to 24mm. I didn't have a light stand on which to set my SB flash unit so I had to prop it up on the chair which was sitting next to the camera. This, unfortunately, resulted in a slight flash 'hot spot' bouncing back off the headboard.

I set the shutter speed to the max synch speed of 1/250th of a second to freeze time. Then, I set my camera to fire using the timer and went to work. I have quite a few shots from the session and some are pretty funny (of my mis-timing the jumps and crashing into the bed).

This is probably the best one, although I wish I'd have had a 14-24mm ultra-wide so that I could have gotten all of my body in frame.

This 'bright idea' as my wife called it resulted in a trip to the doctor for back issues. But, as with most efforts one must take to get a certain photograph, it was worth it...

Too funny! You have to wonder what the tenants of the rooms around you had to be thinking when they heard all the bumps and thumps caused by all your jumps.

Great shot though, guess sometimes it pays off to be bored

I clicked in to this thread expecting to see kid(s) jumping on a bed, boy was I surprised. Nice shot and a very interesting idea. I guess this goes to show that guys never really grow up...based on the fact that now I have the urge to try this.

Great shot....

A group of friends of mine tried the same thing a few years back - our shots didn't come out quite as good as yours as we did it for a giggle.

Seeing this makes me want to give it another shot!

No trampoline... The angle of the camera makes it appear that I'm higher than I actually am. And, the bed was pretty springy and acted as my trampoline...
