Since I've been going to school, I decided to pare down my every-day camera gear selection. The first half of this semester I spent with just my D80 and a 50mm f/1.8D and found it totally acceptable for general use. It's small, light, and gives me great versatility (Great for shooting while IN class).
That is, until I was given a pile (seriously, a dozen rolls) of expired C-41 colour film. I'm not one to pass that up easily. So I threw the 50mm onto my FE and started carting that around. The other night, while taking pictures of our Christmas tree (as seen here), I went back to the big digital. D80, Grip, 10-24mm zoom. I had forgotten how BIG that kit is. Even better: I shot a few birds the this morning with my 70-300. That almost knocked me over! I'll get used to it, and quick, but it's quite the adapting to do. Im also thinking of bringing the camera to christmas with the family this year. Just throw my SB-800 onto the shoe and point up.

It's really amazing when you step into the upper end of gear. My D3 with 80-200mm f/2.8 on it is an anchor! My other main camera is a G10...now there's a contrast!
