I have Dell's Sonic Cineplayer (DVD program) and Roxio CD creator on my PC (Win XP). Cineplayer locks up my PC sometimes, and when creating a CD of pics for clients, Roxio causes an error. Basically, IMO they're crap.
Can anyone suggest a program, or programs, for both purposes? For DVD reviews, PowerDVD comes up as one of the tops, for CD burners, Nero comes up as one of the tops but unfortunately, so does Roxio. Any help appreciated being that I just got the complete DVD series of Farscape and can't wait to watch it. And I don’t mind paying for the programs, and actually prefer it to freeware. Jim |

There was a time when Nero was Waaaaay better than Roxio, but now they're both retarded bloatware.
Check out infrarecorder, it's open source, lightweight, and free. InfraRecorder | Get InfraRecorder at SourceForge.net VLC will play just about anything and it's free as well! If you want to pay for it, then I would go for Nero and PowerDVD (or WinDVD).
But, I think that there's really no point in paying for a player nowadays, there are many many great and free ones. I recommend you install the K-Lite codec pack, in which Media Player Classic also comes. That is the most complete and updated pack of all the existing codecs. The player is very light and fast. I would avoid nero like the plague. In fact, nero can act like the plague on your pc causing all sorts of grief and compatibility problems. Try CD and DVD Burning Software - Alcohol 120% - Alcohol 52% and Alcohol 52% Free Alcohol 120%
