Default for those in australia...

Do you get your prints from an online lab? If so, which one do you use?

Helllo Emma and welcome to DPS.

Where are you located?

I don't use online printing as I do mine on my own printer or at Ofice Works or Harvey Norman.
Most towns now have a kiosk that you can print from a CD or SD card.

Cheers,

John W

I just get mine done locally at my camera store. Not sure if there's much difference between them and Hardly Norman or Officeworks? Either way, I try to support local business where I can, paying an extra few cents a print is nothing compared to the good advice they give me.

Cheers

For anything up to 10x12, I'm a little embarrassed to say I head to Big W - I've had nothing but consistently great prints from their new setup.

Haven't found the need for online just yet.

Smile Camera House

I use our closest Camera House store, I send the images on line and they post the prints out. They are really helpful for people like me who don't actually know what they are doing in this digital photography world! The staff know what they are doing and provide tips and advice, over the phone if need be. Once you register on their site (google Camera House to find your nearest store, use your nearest store so you can always go into the store if you need to) they send you details of special offers every now and then. Like 100 prints at 18c each, so not always the cheapest but I found staff at Harvey Norman, K-Mart etc. could never provide advice or suggestions to improve my photography.

I haven't tried getting photos printed on line - but my daughter in law has, also she has had photo books done on line through Camera House and has been happy with them. Her sister has used Snap Fish. I have had a lot of photos printed at Big W, but I have found them a bit dark, and Camera House I find is better for colour. Though of course this could depend on the store you go to.

Professionally? RGB lab or Digi Lab are both good. LabX in Melbourne (I use sometimes).

But mostly I order from overseas (through SM, to save time).

thanks all for your replies.

I've been going to the local lab but they are so expensive for larger prints, I wondered if there was a professional lab that does prints online - I used to get heaps of brochures, business cards etc done online, and wondered if there was one that did prints.

Fried Chicken - can you elaborate a little for me on what SM means?

I've used all of those other places and I have to say that they are all shite! the ones near me anyway! I was using some of those for test prints, but I'm seriously contemplating getting a good printer for home use...

Thanks again!

.
Have to agree there, i always use big w. The photos are a good price and the photos turn out nice. They have a new processor at our store now and they can do bigger prints in store as well as landscape prints. My only gripe with them is its often unavailable, and usually when i want photos LOL. The only other one we have in town in is a Fuji lab at one of the electrical stores but the prints are expensive and i didnt think they were as good.

Big W you can order online, and you can either have them dilivered at home or you can also nominate to pick them up in store then you dont have to pay postage. If you sign up to their website they often have online specials on prints and photo gifts (the do photo bar mats which i thought was cool)

I have ordered photos from snapfish, only the free ones that you get when you sign up, but i found the paper was quite thin, and i wasnt fussed on the quality of them either. But i have ordered photo books from them and several gifts, mugs etc and they are pretty good, but again i sign up for the emails and i only tend to get things when they are on special.

Apologies, I have an account on SmugMug, so I have access to foreign (US based) print labs like BayPhoto.
