Red face to flickr or not to flickr...

H i

I have seen that a lot of you all use Flickr for photos is this just a storage site or can you do some picture editing? I have recently started using Picasa but I'm not too fond of it. The editing is OK but every time I download my pics it goes back through EVERYONE and it takes FOREVER! I want something that will only download the last shots. Can you all help?
OH I am not only new to digital Photography I'm NOT so computer savvy so I need easy to use and understand sites.
Thanks

Hi Dawn. Welcome to DPS. I use both Picassa and Flickr. I prefer Flickr cos of the ease with which you can download onto the DPS site and the fact that the posts are a good size in the "medium" view. It's also great for sharing and getting comments from freinds. Furthermore, believe me, if I can conquer it, anyone can. I hope to see lots of your shots soon. Enjoy yourself here. God bless. PAUL

And you can do some basic editing once you upload your pictures to Flickr. They've partnered with Picnik and each photo should have an Edit button over it. Picnik is really easy to use too.

If you download from your camera to Picasa, it WILL download every picture stored in your camera, unless you check"exclude duplicates" The other alternative...when you have downloaded pictures from your camera delete them from the camera.
Flickr is the best way to enable you to post pictures to this site easily.

Douglas.....I don't delete my photos from the card because I'm afraid I will loose my pics on the computer... guess that's why I need to use an outside storage place

You can always back up your images to DVD or CD. Lot's of us do that. In fact, I don't use Flickr for storage. I only upload down-sized images to Flickr only for display (there's a lot of reasons for the downsizing -- faster upload, people can't steal images to make prints, etc.). I keep the full-size images on my computer and back up to DVD or CD.

I do as Rusty does, backup on cd/dvd. Use photo sites for display/sharing only.

Please don't leave all your pictures in the camara. Download to a disc ,a memory stick,or if you plan lots of pictures invest in an external hard drive...they are fairly cheap these days.
