Default Sys?

Why is there a Share Your Shots area? So people can post 100 different posts and chalk up more posts on their profile? Posting "Yeah, you did that real good" isn't adding or subtracting from a photographer's skill set. But it's adding to that person's post count. Turn off counting posts in SYS and watch the amount of posts decrease. Don't say you can't because I've done it in my own forums (well, past forums).

Yeah, SYS is a very popular spot but you have people that are just posting to post.

I'd have to say I disagree. Not everyone is serious about photography, a lot of people just like to take pictures and share them. SYS is very popular, thus their shots usually get plenty of views.

I look at SYS as a sort of "Social Forum" on its own, a place for casual photographers who aren't interested so much in having their shot critiqued as they are in just sharing it.

I agree, some people get wrapped up in the whole "post count" thing, but why does it bother you that someone else has 500 or 1000 posts? Who really cares?

A post, imo, is about the content, not the quantity of posts. If someone is posting drivel just to pad their count, that's their business. It doesn't effect me in anyway what-so-ever. I can easily ignore the inane posts and enjoy/educate myself with the meaningful ones.

BTW - I didn't vote in your poll since there's no "I don't care" option.

Post counts mean nothing. I've never looked at a number of posts somebody has made and thought that they deserve anymore respect than somebody making their first ever post.

The Share your shots board serves it's purpose well. I've many a shot I'd like to share because it's captured a moment or I'm proud of it and I don't want it shot down in flames of critique.

Notmally I'm with you on that sort of thing. But here, post counts are useless. There's no secret section you get access to after a certain number of posts.

People actually care about post counts?

To me SYS is just a place to do exactly that.......share a few shots.

That section moves so fast, I rarely ever go past the first page, but if I see something I like, I'll comment something along the lines of "nice shot, or most well done."

Now that I think about it, I do remember seeing threads that were titled about someone reaching 500, or 1000 posts. I've never read any of the threads, because I really don't care about post counts.

I don't care one way or the other, although I voted not to count them. Sure, people post just to post. So what?

Apparently they don't know about the Super Secret Super Senior Member Section where you learn the secret handshake and get all the free stuff.

Hey! You weren't supposed to mention that in a publicly viewable post! Now they'll have to change the post count plateau again!
