Default Modeling

I have had a few moms ask me, how do they get started in getting their kiddos into modeling. Does anyone know, or can you point me in the right direction?

I know the photos are important...

When my son was young I wish I had known the answer, though I still don't. The only thing I do know is that they should never have to pay a modelling agency to start up.

Modeling for children is a MINEFIELD! Unless Mom is hypervigilant and has a very, very strong personality and commitment. I would not recommend they even begin. The business is Loaded with subhumans. But if the kid is really into it and Mom has the time to devote to it ( A fulltime job and more) AND the kid is photogenic, active, directable, and last but not least is mature enough. Go for it. Beware that the larger the agency doesn't translate into less BS. Sometimes it is more. The people who are doing it now should be the ones she is talking to about the pros and cons of different agencies.

If you are offering headshots and portfolios to these folks then make sure you are doing it for upfront money as they tend to disappear without notice. If the kid is particularly beautiful and photogenic I would do it for trade and try to keep in touch or see if they want to work for me.

How old are the kids? Honestly you do not need a fancy portfolio to get into an agency. All you really need to do is send in some polariods that show a clean face and what the body looks like. From front/profile/back etc. Or just go to some open calls. Anyways here is a website with a lot of useful information on the modeling industry.

Hope it helps. Good luck to the kids. Just make sure that they realize that it is not something that they will likely succeed at.

The kids are between 0 and 7. Every Mom thinks they have the most beautiful kid in the world. I would just to have an answer to their question. I will call some modeling agencies in the morning and see what I come up with. PLUS, if they think that I think their kid is awesome beautiful (most of them actually are - I m lucky) they will remember my name when they are talking to their friends...

A photography forum probably isn't the place to be saying that Surely they need $5K in prints from 10 separate all day shoots???
