The main reason I was asking is because two weeks ago I was staying at a hotel near downtown Disney in Orlando, Fl. I spend almost 1/2 hour trying different things I found in my room to use as a tripod, so I could take some pictures of the fireworks display from the Disney parks. I've read somewhtere that if you unscrew the lamp shades from a stand up lamps, you can use it as tripos because the screw is the same size as the tripod hole in your camera. Well in my case the lamps in my hotel room were not conventional, so I couldn't use them.

I ended up puttin a chair on top of a table, then a waste basket on top of the chair. The result were not good because the camera was not leveled. So I figured something like this could be useful in situations like the one I was.
People have used beanbags for years, but for $40, the pod you should be looking at goes by the name Gorrillapod. I always, ALWAYS take mine on trips.

Ok, it will hold the camera on the back of a chair, but what happens when the dog goes racing thru the house after the kids, or the cat, and bumps the chair? Most likely, there goes your camera in the floor. Having devastatingly loose a camera, because of it falling, I'd rather not chance it. I think that getting creative about how to stabilize your camera would be better than this thing. I just wouldnt trust it. I can see the practical use of bean bags for other things, but not for $40. I spent less than that on my tripod, shipping and all, and I love it. If you want a bean bag or something like this, the things to make it would equal A LOT less than buying one.

Attached are two photos of my camera with the 70-300 lens fully extended sitting on the back of a chair with just the green pod holding it in place? You owe me a dollar
BTW...I generally use it as a brace and it was awesome when we went to Europe this past summer and took amazing photos in dark churches and other places where tripods are NOT allowed.
O.K. Not the set up I was referring to. You picked a parallel line. But I'm impressed. Not enough to get one, but enough to send you the $1. You have paypal?
