Good case for shooting RAW:

YouTube - How To Shoot RAW without Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt by Michael Tapes

Not sure why anyone would want to shoot strictly jpegs after watching this (if you are serious about getting the best images possible). For anyone still on the fence about this, why not shoot RAW + L so you have both? Storage is cheap now.

BTW, that was a great breakdown by JB.

Default RAW,confusion

I am only just starting to play with RAW but cannot make any adjustments in " lens aberration mode.

The RAW package came with the camera, Canon 550D but the lens is a Tamron 18-270mm,

Is the problem that the camera is not recognising the lens, if so is that because it is a Canon package.

If I download lets say photoshop & edit in RAW on there will that solve the problem.
Hope someone can help as I am completely new to this & totally confused.

Thanks
terry

RAW is epic win I now only shoot in JPG when A: I'm using my old fuji hybrid because I'min a canoe and might fall out. B: When I need immediate printing (onsite printing at events etc) - sometimes then though I'll go RAW+JPG.

I've not read the whole thread but for me, RAW is like having a kitchen full of ingredients, and JPEG is like a microwaveble ready meal for one. Ok, maybe I'm being a little harsh on JPEGs, because they do have their uses, but on the whole I think the analogy stands up.

Learn to cook from scratch and you'll have far tastier meals than buying ready-made. Learn to post-process RAW files and you'll have far better photographs than taking the ready-made JPEG from the camera.

Here is one of my own reasons why you should absolutely shoot RAW. There was simply no other way to turn this into the shot it was than by shooting correctly in RAW and developing it in Lightroom.

Hi Nicole, I have never had the opportunity to shoot in RAW before I bought (today) a Canon EOS 20D.
I have played around a bit (cloning etc) with an old version of Photoshop Business Edition (it came bundled with software for a printer) but have no idea what program I need to work on RAW photos. Do you have any recomendations?

I normally shoot RAW but on my camera there is also an option to shoot in TIFF...which, at upwards of 70mb each ( ) , are twice the size. This is an issue for me because my camera (Fuji S2) can only hold 2Gb cards.
Is there any good reason why I would use the TIFF format over RAW? And why are the files so colossal?
