Default D40x

I have a friend who's workmate is selling a D40x.

The unit is 18 months old, fairly light useage and comes with case, battery grip, 15-55 kit lens, cd's manuals.

He wants £150 for it and i have already accepted (camera is for a friend anyway). Just wondered if thats a good deal or am i fooling myself?

Obviously I will not proceed if its scratched to death and full of sensor dust etc.

Here in the States I paid $700 (around £450) for the same setup, new. So that sounds like a reasonable price for used one.

Great deal. I'd put it through its paces, make sure everything works, and go for it.

That's a great deal, I got the body only as a refurb unit for $250 USD. It's a fantastic camera.

I don't know if Nikon made an official one, but if you search for D40x Battery Grip on amazon, you'll find a bunch.

Here's one for only $42 or so:

Nikon doesn't make any. There are some third party ones but all they do is add some bulk and extend your battery life. The contacts within the D40's battery compartment are not designed to support any sort of shutter release or other controls from the battery grip. Some manufacturers use the IR remote function to mimic a shutter button on the grip but it's not very practical for real use.
