Default The old switcheroo

I was contacted recently to do a July 4th party for a family at a local park. We met at the location and walked around to get a feel when the wife pulls me aside and reveals that the party is a spoof. A wild goose chase to get her husband in the Columbia,SC area for a surprise 50th bday party. So for me this is a substantial location change. It is going from an outdoor well lit shelter during the day, to an indoor banquet room at night. Im nervous about shooting it now, I dont know if my 50mm 1.8 and 55-200 VR will capture enough light to make the shots they want. Should I give it a try anyways, or tell the lady I cant help them anymore? I do plan on picking up a sb-400 for my D70 between now and July. There are just so many things to consider now, I have just begun putting my name out on the market and my gear, budget and experience are very limited.

the 55-200VR is horse apples in bad light... sorry, but it is. Consider getting a fast lens on top of the SB400.

I do say 'go for it' though.

I assumed the 55-200 wouldnt do too well for this situation, I just bought it friday and hadnt fully tried it out. Hopefully my 50mm will get me what I want.

Yea, it might. For something that is fast moving like a party though, you really might help yourself with some sort of medium zoom lens, such as a 20-80ish range...

My $.02

Depending on what you're charging them, a week's rental for a fast zoom may be well worth it. I've heard nothing but good things about: http://www.cameralensrentals.com/shop/

Can you bump the price you're charging by $100 and add in ten days of a 70-200mm f/2.8? (To give yourself enough time to familiarize yourself before hand as well)

Oh, and absolutely, positively DO get a flash and familiarize yourself with it and with Plant Neil to give yourself so much more options to work with.

He did say he was getting a SB-400...

Get a diffuser to go with it... best $20 you'll ever spend.

I dont think they would up the price for the lens rental, that would be awesome to have an excuse to tinker with some fast glass though. The defuser is obviously a must, so I will be picking up one of those. A lens of 2.8/f would be nice, but im not quite ready to dump that much money into my game yet. Im not charging the family much being this is my first attempt at a party.
