Default Post pictures on the Web

I am currently putting the final touches on my Photography Website. How important is it to have a watermark on the pictures I post there? I don't do this as a career so having to spend the dollars to have someone program the site to not allow the right click thing to happen.

Thanks for your comments in advance.

Depends how big you're posting the images.

Just to be safe I wouldn't put any pictures at all on the site. Its definately the best security method I've ever used. Just give out your address and tell people to come round if they want to see your work.

*Is serious now* Don't bother with the right click thing. It's so easily bypassed its not worth it and it will just anoy people who use right click to browse. *End of seriousness*

If even you have the right click feature disabled, people can still take screen captures of your photos with screen capture software programs. I'd recommend the smallest photos possible and a watermark if you are worried about it.

I try to put a basic, faint, non-obtrusive watermark -- more for identification than to discourage copying. I also don't post particularly high-res versions -- people could still take a screenshot and use it on facebook, but if they're that dedicated, let it happen. They won't be making nice, 8x12 art prints from the stolen shots, and that's really the part I'd worry about.

I have always hated watermarks, but I started using them when I found my photos showing up as background images on other people's websites. There's little you can do to stop people from using them, but I figure at least with a watermark, I still get some credit for the image.

I will be using a water mark just for this reason.

Thanks everyone for the advice. A watermark it will be, now if I am smart enough to get that done I will surprise myself.

There are some very good tutorials on YouTube - mine is set as a Photoshop "Action" and linked to a function key - very simple. Good Luck.
