Default Broken Camera

When I turned on my camera (Digital Rebel XT - D350) nothing happened so I changed the battery for one I knew was fully charged. When I put the battery in, the shutter clicked and the camera would not respond. I changed out the CF card and the camera still did the same thing. I will take the camera to my local shop because I believe that it needs professional attention and from reading posts on the web minimum repair charges are $250.00 or so - almost half of what a new D450 camera body would cost.

I am really thinking about a D450 body to replace the 350 and can get one at WalMart for $489.00. I believe that good pictures are made by the photographer and not the camera so I will stick to low cost cameras. I have one good lens that cost more than the camera and get good results from it. I am currently with very few dollars to spend.

I have sold a half dozen photos at the Garden Club Tour but no serious dollars from photography. I would like to sell enough to get a new camera...help with ideas please. My Flickr pix are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/81937426@N00/.

Also, have you tried removing both batteries, letting them sit for half a minute or so, then putting them back in? The date/time battery is probably at about the end of its useful life, and replacing that battery might be enough to get the processor in the camera running smoothly again.

I changed the lens to the original kit lens and took out the batteries (both the main power battery and the date/time backup battery) all to no avail. I did get some response however: the drive mode button will cause one icon to appear and change when pushed (single, continuous and timer). When I did not put in a CF card a message also appeared on the screen that there was no CF card. The shutter still clicked when I put in the main battery and nothing else happened.

I will replace the date/time battery today and see what happens. Thanks for the responses. I have an olympus point-and-shoot (styllus 790) to use now but it is not nearly a versatile as the Rebel and its expensive zoom lens.

TIA
Lamar
