Default Can I do it?

So as some of you may know yesterday was Ash Wednesday and therefore the start of Lent. Also you may know that people usually make a sacrifice for Lent, this year I've decided to give up my camera for all 40 days and 40 nights of lent. I will not even touch it, and will give up my other cameras too (GoPro and camera phone specifically).

Do you think I can do it?

Hello Nicotine, I dont know too much about Lent but I do understand that most of the customs and traditions that are based on religion are devised to help you become a better person, and not really to give up something good.

Do you really want give up your camera and photography for FORTY days. IMHO: NO. Photography is such a wonderful thing, if not anything, simply put its a form of art. And you should'nt be giving up that. Please think of something else.

Sure, but why?!
Don't you have ANY bad habits? How about giving up potato chips or something that is a change for the better....
Or, if you have nothing else...give up computer "browsing/forums" and make more time for things that matter (like family)....
I see no benefit in giving up photography (unless you have some really strange addiction to it....)

Hmm you bring up an interesting point there, but the way I reasoned it was that it was distracting me from other things, but I guess it really isn't that big of a negative influence in my life.

I'll bet money that this(and other) photography forum(s) is more of a distraction than actual photography, and less of a benefit...

I've decided to give up alcohol instead, because as newPerspective (how ironic) pointed out, my camera/photography is not really a vice, whereas drinking is.

Mods can close this as they see fit.

Hmm, sounds like someone is going to take up another habbit. Like cigarettes. Or heroin.

Its a proven fact that most people that enter some kind of rehabilitation or quit cold turkey get addicted to something new, usually weaker (or, in this case, at least less expensive). Enjoy
