Default Ok where do I start

I'm new here.. and so thrilled that I've found this place. What I am wondering is, where I should start. There are so many awesome threads and topics here, I think I've been to almost everyone. Where should I be focusing my time while here?

I guess it depends on your goals!

I am pretty new too (my second week with dps and also with my new camera . I spend most of my time reading... there is so much to learn and I am absorbing tons. Posting photos in the critiques sections is very helpful, as the feedback helps us to improve. The people are great!

Welcome to DPS, Jheri!

You can jump right in and try an assignment, share one of your shots with us, or just browse around reading what interests you. Feel free to join in conversations and comment on other pics you see here. Before you know it, you will have made some friends and learned a bit!

Jheri, Welcome to DPS! I am new also as you can see, I beleive you posted on a question I had about 50mm lens! I have found that when I don't understand something or can't figure out how it works I just ask and someone will answer. I always get good answers and when I try the suggestions they work! I just got my first DSLR Canon XSI at Christmas and I found DPS to be very helpful. I started with reading the basics about Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO it has helped alot! I still have a lot to learn but this is a great place to learn it! Good Luck!

You already started, after all you asked the question here

If you want to have some fun on the forums there are plenty of games to get you started in the Games & Challenges section. Or the technique areas are great for sharing or learning about new techniques. Those are some of my fav spots. Oh! And the Tutorials section has some great tutorials to try out.

Sharing your shots is always good. The critiques section is good for feedback but don't just submit photo's for critique, have a look at some and see if there is anything that you can help with as there is always someone that knows less than you.

Welcome to DPS. I found this site back in September. My first few posts were for the weekly assignments. Eventually I posted a picture in the Critique My Shot section and received some helpful information. I think it all depends on what your comfort level is. If you just want to share that's fine, there's a place for that. If you want feedback, there's a spot for that too.

Hi Jheri, and welcome! You'll probably become as addicted to this forum as we all are.

I just joined in January, and I wasn't sure where to start, either. I kind of started by posting a few of my own shots in the Share Your Shots section, and commented on others shots as well. I've made quite a few friends starting off that way. It's a very friendly group and you'll come to know people and make friends easily. I also posted a couple of shots in the critique section, and gave my own critiques, even though I'm a complete noob. Also, if I have a question about something in particular, I'll either browse the forum sections, or if I'm quite specific, do a search.

There is such a wealth of information here, and when you first join, it does look a bit intimidating and it seems like you'll never find what you seek - but that quickly dissipates as you get used to it.

Again, welcome, and I look forward to hearing more from you and seeing some of your work!
