Default P&S section

I've noticed that there are a lot of people wondering what photos were taken with P&S cameras as compared to a DSLR. Maybe it would be a good idea for DPS to have a P&S section for users to share their P&S shots. It would make it easier than having to sift through threads to find which ones were taken by P&S or DSLR (because some users tend to leave out what they used). It's just an idea, what do y'all think???

Haha yeah, It just seems that a lot of users are wondering what others can do with their P&S instead of always having to look at what a DSLR user can do.

i dont think thats necessary

thats why God created "EXIF" all you do is write underneath your picture what camera it was taken with and the settings.. easy.
....but not everyone states what sort of camera it was, so i think that what you're really getting at.

Yeah, kinda, in a nutshell sorta way! It would be so much easier to go to a section for P&S than have to look at EVERYONES pictures to see what they used......

In a way, I think that woould undermine the validity of a P&S....I think they should "compete" head-to-head...

What might be interesting is an assignment or such where you were to take your best pic (or "same pic") with a P&S... I've submitted several shots taken with my P&S...The camera is a tool...I've got $60 hammers and $5 hammers...they both drive nails...

(I think that might depress a lot of individuals with "too much" invested in gear)

A P&S assignment is a good idea. I think that this has already been mentioned.

And it always gets down to which take a better image, a top of the range DSLR or a P&S (cheap or expensive). I can answer that with absolute certainty, Neither! It is the photographer. Which reminds me, I must buy a new camera with more megapixels, 6 isn't enough

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who only has a p+s and isn't able to upgrade to a dslr. I'm not sure how I'd feel about such an area. My first reaction was quite positive, it might be nice to have a section devoted to what I use, but then I thought, what if that makes me feel excluded from the rest of the site? I sometimes feel a bit like a second class citizen anyway, not that anyone is sniffy about it of course as this is a very friendly site, just that I'm aware that I'm in a minority. Most things I want to do can be done just fine with my Lumix, composition and pp, landscapes and close ups if not extreme macro, so there's plenty for me to get involved in here.
I think I'd maybe like a section in the equipment area for p+s where questions can be discussed like what can and can't be done with p+s and which ones have which features etc. and where some pix could be posted as well. But I'd not like to feel restricted from posting p+s pix in other areas coz that's all I'll ever have!
As for the exif, I don't know enough about cameras to know which is a dslr and which is a p+s anyway! but for people who do understand that stuff I would hope it was sufficient and that us humble p+s'ers won't be isolated in some kind of ghetto!
And a p+s only assignment might be interesting, it might give people who use only p+s an advantage as dslr users would be less used to making the best of their limitations - but not as a comparison with a dslr for obvious reasons!!

Hasn't it been debated many times that it is not the camera per say but the photographer ? I like the feel here as a whole. It's nice to have a place to go where you can post your shots (be them crappy to great) and receive the comments and encouragements. I have an almost top of the line Nikon and I have a bottom of the line Nikon P&S that I carry in my pocketbook. Personally, I have taken both fantastic and horrendous shots with both.

My P&S is 8 megapixels and that is NOT enough either lol I like the 12 much better
