I don't really see a need to separate. We are all photographers, and as such, we are all here to learn from each other.

I got my first DSLR about a year ago. I was SO excited because I just KNEW I was now going to take the most amazing pictures ever known to man! I discovered a DSLRs limitations quickly, though. The learning curve is steep, you can't take it with you everywhere, it's big and bulky, etc. Honestly, I take my p&s with me everywhere. I don't have the extra hand to carry my DSLR with me everywhere.

I LOVE my Lumix! I need to get a new p&s soon (I keep burning through mine in 3 years flat, without fail), but I'm pretty set on getting another Lumix. I've been so impressed with it!

OK, I've given my goofy response so here's my serious response. I agree with most that I don't think there should be a seperate section. When I found DPS I had a P&S. Though seeing people's signatures with all of the DSLRs and glass was a bit intimidating, I found that the group is very welcoming and that I had nothing to worry about in terms of asking questions. So, yes it's mainly perception and yes a separate group would probably enforce that.

Baaaa i agree with the majority here.

My favourite photographs were taken with my P+S (which is depressing since i forked out on a DSLR this year! ahem...) they both have their good points both have their bad points - i actually like the fact you can take crap photos with a P+S - as in you point it, press the button and no matter what the other variables there's your photo. Whereas with the DSLR im finding that if i haven't done or got x y or z then the thing simply won't fire GRRRR which is irritating when all i want to do is just snap a shot iyswim.

So yeah, i dont think seperating the two users out is a good idea and i agree with fletch that perhaps putting your gear as your sig is perhaps not the best idea out there.

Can't think off the top of my head who has it as their sig but it's something along the lines of "the more kit you take the less you shoot" or something like that. I reckon thats pretty true tbh - although i could possibly be wrong!! lol

Just wanted to say that this is one of my old threads. Someone dug it up. But it is still interesting to see the comments.

Someone posted some photos taken with a p&s the other day and everyone was in awe that it was not a DLSR. Goes to show you, it doesn't matter. All DSLR gives is more control and more lens choices.
It gives more, but takes more.....money!
