Ok. Thanks Joe Hoetzl I have downloaded Opanda IEXIF 1.
Wulf, I think it is the same program you use in Firefox. If I right click on a picture in the forum then click “view exif/GPS/IPTC with Iexif” a box comes up saying “no Exif info in the image”! It works fine on my computer with my photos. If the picture in the forum is linked to Flickr then I can access the Exif data via Flickr no . ( Thanks to your help). Jargon ,states that right click Properties, then summary, for all the exif info but I have found I have to copy and paste onto my computer and all I have managed to find in summary is size of the picture. Maybe I am expecting too much.

Kairos,
Also, don't forget that not all pictures have EXIF data. Often the programs used to process them, eg. resizing, strip all of that out. When it's there, it's great... but sometimes it's not ![]() Wulf |

wulf,
Just the right person! That is what my edit program does. To get EXIF on Flickr, I can only download from camera to different file, never open in PhotoDeluxe, and upload directly to Flickr. So unless it's a perfect shot, uneditted, none of my Flickr's show EXIF. For a contest, what would one do?

Make sure you post the salient details alongside the shot, particularly the date taken. EXIF info is great but not essential.
We are both trusting and realistic. There is not much riding on the results other than a bit of exposure and anybody who falsifies a date to enter a particular picture that was not taken specifically for the assignment is going to have to live with the fact they are a cheat. Furthermore, it is not impossible to falsify EXIF data, for example copying it from another file. With the amount of time the moderators can devote to checking things, we are unlikely to spot even fairly obvious anomalies (eg. an obvious slow exposure claiming to have been taken at 1/500s). Therefore, we can (only) afford to be both trusting and realistic... ![]() Wulf |

I did thank everyone for their input to this thread but it seems to have got lost .So again thanks for all the advise with luck I am now fully conversant with Exif data and how to extract it from photo's.

In windows XP you can view some of the Exif data by turn on Status bar when viewing the contents of a folder. The path is; Open a folder view, click on "View" in the text menu and click on Status Bar to place check mark. At the very bottom of the fold windows a status bar will appear with zoom level and other info. When you click on an image without opening the Exif data will appear if available if not you imgae size - type and file size.
