Default Facebook and My Space

Has anyone marketed themselves on Facebook or Myspace? If so, how did you do it and did it work?

I thought for a momwent on MySpace and made an effort to beffriend other artists, photographers and galleries. All I succeeded in doing was makeing a bunch of friends with whom most of which we dont talk or even leave each other comments. It was a hell of a lot of work and to me wasnt worth it.
To me, altho mypsace is fun it really isnt much good for things other than cyber commenting and chatting. So, in other words my attempts failed

Complete waste of time if you ask me. I'm not 14. If i wanted to get in touch with an old long lost friend, i'd just call them. Much more personal.

Although some buisnesses have success with Myspace, I didn't get very far with it. It's more of a place to find old friends than new companies.

I recommend getting a nice web page, then use a free service like google's local business finder. I get quite a few hits from that.

I use the gadget thing and have sent it to all my friends who have in turn passed it on. That one is free but havent ventured into any of the paid deals yet

I have my photoblog listed prominently on both my myspace and facebook profiles. On facebook, I also use the notes import feature to update my profile when I have posted new photos to my photoblog. I even have a fan page, where anyone on facebook can indicate their appreciation for my work. The result of all this is that I have three to five people link through from those sites directly to my site each day. It's not really enough to invest a lot of time in, but I play on Facebook and Myspace because their fun. I'd do it anyway, and don't expect much from it. If I weren't already using them, I probably wouldn't bother.

Default I've used facebook

I have been a user for 6 months to a year and when I started my business I started a facebook group page for it and invited all my friends. I've gotten a few gigs off of it- high school seniors and some friends of mine from high school. The thing is, it is an amazing networking tool. You tag your client in it if they are you facebook friend and then all their friends see their pics as well and are directed to your facebook page. And the fact of the matter is I know grandparents and uncles and aunts that are facebook users. And I live in KS, not exactly a technocentric part of the world. I vote yes on facebook, here is a link to my facebook group if you want to see it.

My son and I are just starting up and we did the same. The way I look at it is free advertising. We have a link to our web page and that got a ton of hits. We got 3 jobs from it so far.
