The 'pods are always in the car, so technically I always have them with me. However I am much more apt to grab the monopod unless I am going after a specific shot that requires a more stable platform. I generally do not casually carry a tripod around.

I don't have a tripod (I plan on getting one soon), but if I did I wouldn't care it around everywhere. I would mostly use it for HDR and long term exposures.

I've seen a few references to this in this forum, does anyone have any sample night-shots taken with the gorillapod and a larger SLR?
They look pretty tempting for those times where you can't lug a full tripod but still have enough room to wrap one around something else in your bag. Especially as I live in Switzerland so I don't drive (too damn expensive) |

Not all the time. Depends on where I am going and what I plan on shooting.

I don't carry it everywhere but I do take it if I know that I will be shooting. I also have a mono pod.
I do have something else that works well though. I made 2 of them one for standing one for kneeling you take a bolt that treads in the bottom of your camera then take a peace of good string and put a weight on the other end tie the string so you can stand on it and pull it tight when you bring the camera to you eye. it takes out most of the camera shake. You can move side to side and some up and down by moving you foot. I got this off the net. I carry mine in and old filter case to keep it from getting messed up. one in each case. ______________________________________ Sony A350 18-70 75-300 and filters Canon Rebel 18-55 canon 28-90 Sigma 70-300 Sigma Quantaray zoom flash Quantaray2X Teloconverter Tripod Mono Pod and filters Last edited by Kem; 11-04-2008 at 04:39 PM. |

Lets see, I have 4 tripods and one monopod. I use the monopod 4 times as much as the tripods.. Tripod is a necessity item for the still lifes and such I like to do around the house, light painting and the odd night shot. I still have to have one but I'm not carrying everywhere I go, that's for sure.
I do a lot of panoramas and HDR. When I started I thought I had to have a tripod. I didn't. I used to carry the tripod on every trip to the park, now I have an 80-400mm VR lens and leave the tripod at home (monopod still goes). VR is pretty handy even at 400mm. I hate dragging a tripod around all the time. I'll throw it in the car for odd shot but I'm just not going to take it back packing with me... I do carry a small bag filled with plastic beads. It's very light and I have used it for a lot of pics I need a steady rest for. I've used that bag on hoods, tree limbs, walls, you name it, it's been there. That little "bean bag" fits in a fanny pack, weighs almost nothing, is VERY useful so it goes everywhere I go. Tripod mostly stays in the trunk (but you still have to own one).. Enough of this dissertation. Last edited by arlon; 11-05-2008 at 08:43 PM. |

Talking of monopods, take a look at this ebay auction.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/68-4-section-l...1%7C240%3A1318 In particular, the description: Padded Hand Grip Wrist Strap Rubber Feet Collapsed Length 22" Fully Extended length 68Ft 68ft is a mighty tall monopod! Can anyone think of some applications for it?
