Default Who am I? That is a very Zen question.

My name I Rick.
I am 52 years old. I own a business in Miami Florida where I repair Jet Aircraft Engines parts for major airlines around the world. I also have a 20 acre ranch in Ocala Florida where my wife and I raise South African Boer Goats.

My father got me into photography in the early 1970’s. We or he had a 35mm Minolta with a 70-200mm F2.8 macro zoom lens (Very nice), 18mm wide angle and a 55mm portrait. The flash was dedicated but TTL was unknown, at least to us. During that time I took a lot of vacation shots and floral shots and learned about film speed, aperture and DOF but film developing cost got in the way of Motorcycles, RC airplanes and raising two kids.

I got back in when digital photography started. My first camera was 640X480 resolution ( 1 megapixels where for the rich and famous) about the size and with the features of the 110 point and shot of the day. With that digital camera I started making ID badges and irons for tee shirts in Windows 3.1. Next was a Sony unit with 10x optical zoom and a whooping 1024 x 768 resolution and it recorded the images on a 3.5” floppy disk, it also recorded 320x240 meg movies with sound. Boy was the chest out when I brought that home.

Three years ago I purchased a Canon Rebel with the standard 18-55mm EFS lens and a Quantaray 70-300mm zoom. Last month I purchased an EF 100-400mm L USM IS zoom, EF 100mm Macro lens and an Extender EF 1.4X. Yep knee deep both feet. Now all I have to learn is how to make all this stuff work and this forum seems to be a good place to learn.

Well anyone wanting to know more about me after all that is probably a sick puppy so I will leave all you shutter bugs with a thought……..
In some circles being over exposed can get you in trouble.

Rick

Default Hello!!

Hi,

I'm Ashwin and I must say it's wonderful to finally be here after hearing so much about you guys and this site from another member, Kunal (kunaldaswani)! It really is beginning to look like I've been bitten by the photography bug!

Anyways, I live in Madras, India and am an architect. Actually make that almost-an-architect because I'm about ten days from submitting my thesis!!

I use a Canon S3 IS and its wonderful to learn new things about the camera everday! And its even more wonderful to be able to see things the way I've never seen them before! This happened to me when I joined School and everytime I walked into a building or passed by a building that caught my eye I would analyse it as an architect and see things that I would never have noticed otherwise! Its the same thing all over again once I picked up the camera. It is indeed quite exciting to see things from an entirely different perspective, literally and figuratively speaking!

Looking forward to being here and taking off on a wonderful new journey!

Stay in the sunshine!
Ashwin

Rick Welcome to dps! I've been enjoying your pictures so far. I started with film, too (showing my age ). It does give you a good background in a lot the basics!
Nice L lens you got there, as well as the 100mm macro. Looking forward to seeing more of your shots!

Ashwin Nice to have you join us! Kunal's been a wonderful member here and we're glad you joined our family. too. Interesting how photography makes you see things in a differnent way, isn't it. Enjoyed your rusty pipe shot, hope to see more.

Good luck with that thesis!

Default Hi!

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for quite a while now so thought it was time I just got on with it and introduced myself.

I'm in Melbourne and have an almost two year old boy and a wonderful husband who is in the good books after buying me a new lens for my birthday and a crumpler for Mother's Day. I've had my Canon 400D since January and love being able to take as many shots as I like without paying for film although I really need to brush up on my technical knowledge a bit more.

I'm also an almost architect - all going well - just waiting on my final set of results. In the past my main interest in photography was in architecture and details, I did a couple of architectural photography subjects as part of my course. Now my little boy is my main subject so it's great to find a site like this with some inspiration to go out and photograph other things.

I'm looking forward to (hopefully) contributing a little bit and getting a lot out of this site now that I'll have a bit more time to participate. Have enjoyed some of the assignments to give me a break from studying but haven't had much chance to submit anything until now.

Ok - after all that I'm off to see if I can work out how to post pictures.

Cheers,
Ellie

Ellie mac Glad you finally decided to join us. Nice husband you've got buying camera goodies! I see you found how to post pictures.
Good luck with the architecture results!

Pixiepoppit Hi and welcome to DPS! I (and probably everyone else here) know exactly what you mean when you say you "got the bug." Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Default Hi There

Hey there, My name is Brad Thompson, I am a 36 year old male, who is studying the art of photography. I am taking 3 online courses right now, plus what ever I can fit on the side to learn Photoshop CS2. I have 2 cameras, both of which are a "Prosumer" market, basically high end Point and shoots :P

I found this particular site a while back, but just recently joined. I have learned so much just from DPS alone it is amazing what one can do by reading and seeing what other folks do.

I trend ti critize my photos too much, so I have taken to posting them here and other places, to get a better idea of what they are really like.

I really do enjoy this forum, and I will continue to use it and when I feel confident to toss in my 2 cents on projects of other peoples.

Again, thanks for this Forum and Site, Most fo all thanks for having me a part of it.

Default Hello

Hello - I am a wife and mom with a desire to go beyond the point and shoot realm. Actually I have had the desire for a while but was not sure where to start. I own a Canon Rebel with the standard 18-55mm EFS lens that I had hoped to start with. However, after playing with the modes, developing film and forgetting what I had done, I got frustrated and went back to point and shoot. I also received a digital camera as a gift a few years back. It has worked good. I have just recently ordered the Kodak Z712is and am hoping to actually learn how to be in control of my shoots and become creative.

I have no idea what most of the terminology is or what it means so hopefully I am not too much of a novice to learn from this site.

Looking forward to doing the assingments...just not sure where to start?

Welcome loriestes

You can start with whatever assignment catches your interest. Check out the complete list of assignments to see if anything there looks like something you'd be interested in. Assignments never close, so, feel free to do any of them.

And don't worry, no question is stupid, so feel free to ask away
