Hi, I'm Jill. I live in Bunbury in Western Australia with my husband. I have 2 sons, and 2 grandsons aged 3 and 1. I have always had a camera since I started taking photos with my Dad's box Brownie in the 70's. I really started getting more interested in photography when I started doing some freelance journalism (as a hobby) around 10 years ago and needed photos to go with my articles. I always shot film and transparencies, and resisted digital until I bought a Canon Power Shot Pro1 in 2005 when we went for a months trip to France and UK for our 50th birthdays. I discovered that digital really expanded my photographic world and as the PowerShot has an excellent super macro facility I have really gotten hooked on macro photography, particularly wildflowers. I love to travel so also enjoy landscapes. I have never had any formal photography training other than a couple of weekend short courses at University of WA and a couple of online courses. My technical know-how is very limited, so I joined DPS to learn more, and to get some feedback on my photography. I am hoping to get my camera off Auto! Thanks everyone.

I've enjoyed reading through these intros and hope to get to know many of you as we share our photos.
After many years with a P&S camera, I've just taken my first steps in the DSLR world with a new Canon Rebel XSi. I'm looking forward to the journey ahead. I love the way photography teaches me to stop running, be present in this very moment, and truly see this amazing world. Wishing all of you joy!

Hi, I'm from Townsville in North Queensland. I got my first camera when I was 10, but lost interest for a few years due to other interests. I currently use a Fuji Finepix S3500 but am hoping to upgrade to a Canon 500D in time for Christmas (or maybe even FOR Christmas!)
I'm currently 2/3 through a Project 365, and have joined a few groups on Flickr to help inspire me. My profile on Flickr is Kawoosh. Don't know how much time I will spend here but am planning on using the blog for lessons and tips. cheers, Obs |

Hi all.
I just got my first semi-decent compact digital Canon SX20 and came across this site while I was trawling the net for tutorials. Thanks to the people who contribute and will see you in the forums. |

Howdy everybody...I'm new to both this forum and to photography in general...For the most part I've always just played around with my Canon Point and shoot (A-540), but now I'm interested in getting some better toys. I'm pretty sure the unit I'm going to get will be a Nikon D-5000. Nice enough that it should last me for many years, but at the same time, not so nice that I'll need to spend years in photography schools trying to figure out how to use it! (And as a bonus, I have friends that have Nikon equipment with lenses they'll let me borrow from time to time until I figure out exactly what I want/need!)
Anyway, in the mean time I'll be poking around looking and absorbing what I can, and checking out all the info this forum has to offer! Later.

Hi, I am Lois Khalafalla. I am from North Carolina. Mother of 6. I have loved photography since a child. I have more photos of my brothers & sisters children than they do. And I was a child at that time. No mention of the pictures I have of my own children. Just recently after years of prodding from my husband I have the time to persue my dream of being a photographer. I love DPS. I am learning so much. I am in the process of researching for a dslr. That's for all the info. This site is a dream come true. Thanks again. Lois
