I'm 30 years old and just picked up my first DSLR, a Canon Rebel XSI. The first night I had it I went through a DVD and some reading online. The second night I had it I came across this site and spent all night reading different articles. I have to say thanks for the great info.

I'm new to the SLR as I've always had a point and shoot camera. Now that I have one I'd like to know how to actually use it instead of just using the auto mode like i did with my other point and shoots. I plan on shooting mostly for personal pleasure, landscape, food that I cook, family. I also run a firearms related website and plan to increase the quality of my product reviews with the new SLR as well.

Hello. My name is Diane Pellin. Photography is my hobby. I just purchased a Canon Rebel xsi. Previously I had an Olympus c-765. I live in Union Missouri and teach at the local community college. I have a lot to learn regarding my new camera, am still uncertain about taking it off of "automatic". I hope to learn many new things from this site and look forward to participating.

Default Getting acquainted

Hi,

My name is Bobbi and I stumbled upon this website through a photography link. I've been taking pictures since I was a young girl and have a love for photography. I am currently using a Kodak EasyShare 10X Zoom. I've lived in Colorado my whole life and love to capture its beauty. I look forward to getting acquainted and learning from this website.

Hi! I'm Sarah, and ive been into photography for about three years though ive been taking pictures with disposable film cameras for as long as i can remember. My grandpa owned a darkroom company and taught my siblings and i darkroom techniques, but i got my first DSLR last summer and have slowly been learning how to use it throughout the year. Though I am still in high school, i really want to learn photography and hopefully someday become a photojournalist. I am still very unexperienced and any critique or advice is welcome. I am taking photography classes at my school and i shoot for my school yearbook, but during the school year i dont have too much time to shoot. This summer it has been my goal to learn as much about photography as possible and shoot as much as i can since i have been told many times the only way to get better is practice. DPS has helped me learn so much, and it has been so amazing reading all the tips, thank you so much!

Name is BillS. I live in Healdsburg, CA.. the heart of the best wines in the world. I retired in 98 and do mostly woodcarving. I was active in photography back in the mid to late 50's. I worked for a camera repair shop in Baton Rouge while in HS. Learned to do some camera repair on everything from Kodak box cameras (Hawkeye) to Crown Grap press type cameras. When I came to Calif after HS, I didn't do much until about Y2K when I got my first digi PNS. I've had a couple of them doing little other than family shots and some pictures of my woodcarvings.

That changed a week ago when I broke down and bought Canon 50D with a Canon EF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM. Now, the big problem.. learning how to use this wonderful beast. For an old guy like me.. this will be a chore. I did purchase book to help me. "Canon EOS 50D Digital Field Guide" by Lowrie. I hope it will help. While I haven't gotten too far in the book.. My hope is it will take one thing at a time.. get me used to it.. and then add another feature..

If anyone has a recommendation for a most excellent book for a guy that is more a visual learner than a reader.. pass it on to me.. not the book..just the title

Hi, Im Noob from northern country South Australia. We have just bought our first DSLR a sony alpha a350 with a twin lens kit. Im very new to the DSLR world but my Hubby has a little experience. The photos that have come out of the camera already are just beautiful, we have beautiful memories of the kids now, and they are loving posing as well.

We are in a beautiful area of SA so plenty of photo opportunities although i think a wide angle lens will be something i will look into in the future. Also Hubby is very much into radio control car racing, so the camera will be taken up with alot of racing pics, we alrady have some great ones.

Cant wait to share some pics and pick up some tips!

Smile Hello Everyone

Hi, I m Bhavin Africawala, Mumbai(Bombay) India.

i am software developer by profession but have been hooked to photography for last 3-4 years. I mostly travel around in India for natural trail, wildlife tours, trekking, mountaineering, adventure sports. As a travel i feel a camera is must to capture the moment of the time and remember it while seen those pics in future. I mostly fotograph nature and related aspects of it.

Earlier i had a Nikon coolpix s4 but around 6-7 months back i have purchased Nikon D80 with 18-135 mm lens and a extra lens of 55-200mm. I have been still learning to use my DSLR to the fullest.

I am also a member of ngo(..::Jungle Lore::..) which is into cleaning and maintainance of forts in Maharashtra, India

Smile Hello all!

My name is Debbie and I am a new member. I live in Langhorne,PA with my husband, two children and two cats and currently work as a Research Scientist in central NJ. Three of my passions are photography (especially nature photography), jewelry making, and yoga. Although I've been dabbling in digital photography for years, I feel I am still a novice with a lot to learn. Currently, I am using a Canon Powershot S3 IS. I'm hoping to share my photos here and to continue learning how to take great pictures.
