I've been interested in photography for 15 or so years now, since I took a photography class in high school. I've never done it professionally although do take on photographic jobs from time to time.

I made the progression from film to digital photography about 4 years ago now and have been fascinated by the evolution in cameras since they first appeared. I have a blog at Digital Photography Blog which follows the developments in digital cameras.

My Gear - I use a Canon EOS 20D DSLR and own an assortment of lenses for it. I also have a Fujifilm finepix f30 point and shoot digital camera.

I'm really excited about these forums - while we've previously had a flickr discussion group (which we'll keep running for a while) this forum will allow us to go a lot deeper.

Ok - so now it's your turn. Let us know who you are!
My name is Gene Grochowski. I am a professor at the American University of the Caribbean in St. Maarten where I teach in the medical school. I used a film 35mm while I was in medical school in the 70's and got back into photography just in the last 2 years. I use a Canon EOS Rebel XTi and I have a Canon 2.8, 100mm, Macro; a Canon 4.5-5.6, 100-400mm, telephoto; and a Sigma 24-70, 2.8, EXDG lens. I recently splurged on a Gitzo tripod and a Really Right Stuff ball head. I take a lot of pictures from a boat and thus would really like one of the newer Canons with a higher ISO.

I want to learn to take photographs instead of snapshots and would like to get good enough to produce a portfolio. I like to shoot landscapes and Macros of flowers and butterflys.

Default Howdy from Seattle

Hi, I'm Kurt. Got here through the DPS Twitter account, in an effort to learn more about composition and night photography. I live in the Seattle area, and have been carrying a camera for about 33 years. If I were to describe my style, it might be called "Advanced Point N Shoot." I love taking pictures of my kids and their antics. There's a lot to learn out there, even for a guy who's had a camera in his hand since before Charlie's Angels. In terms of "artistic" photography, urban backdrops are my thing: cities, trains, tracks, buildings, decaying cars, general grit. I also love time exposure. Seattle is blessed with lots of places to shoot, but really crummy lighting because of the clouds and rain. The Space Needle remains as one of the most photographed icons in the region. Sadly, to date, all my shots of the Space Needle suck...

My kit is simple: Tripod, one digital camera, two 35mm SLRs, a small Digital Video, Holga 120N, and disposable cameras. A $1500 lens for a D50 would be worth more than all my equipment put together. I'm always looking for ways to improve what I do (with the money that I have), and have picked up a lot of great tips from pros over the years. These days I'm taking more shots with my Canon AE-1 and Holga 120N, because my good digital camera broke. My backups include my camera phone and an Olympus D360L I picked up for $20 to fill the gap until I have the cash to buy a new digital. While I may not have much to contribute to this forum as a photographer, I'm here to learn more about photography from people with that kind of experience. Glad to be here. Thanks.

Hey, I'm a newbie to the site ..

I potter with my Canon D60, have an old Pentax for rainy days and quite like dabbling with a Holga.
Hope to learn and share a few words. Looks like a great little community

Hello everyone! I am a twenty something girl from Alaska. I got my first DSLR in March and it was the best money I ever spent! I've been learning so much from this forum. I'd like to eventually be able to contribute tips and critiques once I become a little more experienced.

Hello guys! I'm Drei from Canada, I am currently going to the Art Institute Online studying for my bachelors of science, Graphic Design. I absolutely love photography and everything about it, taking the picture to editing it, to watching the faces of my clients when they see the perfect shot of their occasion. I work at Proex, in Stillwater MN, so I work with photography everyday.

Hello DPS.

I'm Drew, from Ohio. I purchased my first DSLR last summer, and have taken a ton of pictures since. My online travels have taken me here, and I've lurked on the forum for about 10 months and have learned much.

Hopefully soon I'll have something that I think is worth putting up for a critique or just sharing.

Thanks for providing such a great community.

Drew
