I just bought a Nikon D40 and I have no idea how to use it I have read some tips and tutorials from this site but am still a little confused on some things so if anyone can help me with ISO, aperture, and shutter speed I would love you forever.

That's where you're wrong!

Wulf

ps. Johnmark - you need to ask you questions in one of the other sections though as they will get lost in this mega-thread!

Default Hi ya...

Hi ya Friends,

Introducing, Rocky from India.

I joined the forum sometime ago, and have always been spending time in the tutorials section. Atlast, managed to get the block out and posted my first shot in the weekly assignment thread.

I spend most of my time at office on internet forums - automobile, Formula1 Fan and photography. Was bitten by the shutter bug, way back in 2001 but never was serious about photography.

I possess a Rebel Xsi, with the 18-55 IS and Tamron 70-300 Di LD Macro.
Looking forward to posting more and learning much.

Thanks for Your time
+Rocky+

I suppose I will introduce myself as well. I've been lurking for some time now and recently decided to sign up. My name is Alan and I live in Cincinnati, OH. I pay the bills working as a network admin in addition to going to school at the University of Cincinnati to polish off my IT degree. I'm a newb to photography and DSLRs. I currently have a Nikon D40x w/ an 18 - 105 f/3.5-5.6 VR lens. It's not much but it's a start and it's been a lot of fun to learn on. I'm too new to know what photography I enjoy the most so my shots vary quite a bit. You're more than welcome to browse my flickr page which I have linked in my sig. I look forward to learning much from the more experienced photographers on this site.

Default Introduce yourself

Hi I'm Vanda and have been an amateur for decades, first of course with film and then switched to digital about 3 years ago when I sold everything and started working abroad. I'm pretty much a gypsy with a Canon EOS 30D ( EF 28-135mm lens) and a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. I try never to use the fully automatic feature on the camera but oh my the learning curve is pretty steep. I love photography and am trying to do a little more on the artistic side instead of straight documentation. In the past few years I've worked (science) in Indonesia and Mexico. Am currently in Arizona but looking for work or ways to head abroad again. DPS is fabulous and I'm excited to be a part of it

Default Hi everyone!

I'm Ana, 26 years old, I live in Spain and I've been subscribed to the newsletter for some time now but recently decided to also join the forums XD
I'm mostly an illustrator and that means I love drawing, but i had a tough time with a drawing block and decided to take a break and try photography... so i got a Nikon D40 -which was the most suitable for my budget- called it Dero (I've always been scared about taking photos, like a strange technophobia) and started along with some friends to learn how to take decent pictures.
So here I am, waiting for experience to come along with the shots I take and with the advices, comments, critiques and pics of others in here.
By now i got three lenses: 18-50mm, 55-200mm, and 50mm
But for day-to-day life I mostly use a Canon Ixus, as it fits in my handbags XD

My name's Kyla and I'm 12 years old. I'm really a graphic designer (no kidding) but I tried photography and I got interested in it. I use a point-and-shoot camera (Canon PowerShot SD790 IS) and I like it since it's so compact (it fits in my pocket). I spend a lot of my time in front of the computer, usually working on my graphic project and keeping up with the latest trends.

Default A beginner.. again!

Greetings,

First let me start by saying that I am a complete forum junkie! I think I have a forum for each of my many hobbies, from glass art to chicken raising. I checked out a few different forums before settling on this one. It appeared to be the most 'beginner friendly,' and I thought it appeard to be very well organized.

In any event, my name is Chris (or Christopher) and I've recently been bit by the photo bug again. I had taken courses in high school, and apprenticed under a professional for a short while after graduation. Sadly, I've forgotten most everything I learned back then, so I'm here to start with the basics, again!

Just this week, I was able to purchase my entry level DSLR, which just happened to be an Oly E520 kit with the 14-42mm lens. I hope to buy a better lens later on, but I plan on using this one as much as I can. I really wanted the E620 for the in camera art filters, but I had to stick within my budget. I compared the E520 to comparable models of Nikon and Canon, but chose the E520 as I thought it had more features and I just liked the feel of it better.

In any event, I hope to learn as much as I can while here, and I've got to get in on one of those assignments quick! For now though, I'm off to the bookstore to find a copy of "Digital Photography For Dummies!"
