Hello, my name is Ray, I am fairly new to the digital world of photography, I had a Nikon D40 until it was stolen, I mainly left it in the Auto mode and just let the camera do all the work. I have been looking and reading on what to buy for about a year now and ended up with the Nikon D700. This is quite a camera for someone of my very limited knowledge of digital picture taking. But I am willing to put alot of time and effort in learning how to take awesome pics and I am sure many bad ones too.
So any help and info for a guy with more money than brains, I am here to learn and make my mistakes like a lot of other people.
My lenses are a 20-35mm f2.8,,, 300mm f4 af-s,,,105mm micro f2.8,,,60mm micro f2.8,,70-210mm af f4 and a 50mm 1.8 that I bought with the camera.
I am very happy with all the lenses for far, I use my 20-35 and 300 most of the time, I do like the 70-210mm because of its light weight compared to the other two. As long as I have plenty of light it makes for a great walking around lens.
So this is where I am at at this time. Any help or advice will be appreciated....

Nice to meet all of you......

Wow! Is it my imagination or do you have a LOT of gear for someone new to digital? Did you use film pretty extensively before? I'm sure I'm not the only one in awe of your equipment for someone who's new to this. Lens envy from me, that's for sure

Default It's about time..

I've been sort of lurking and sneaking in to threads for a while now. Figure a few of you may be wondering about me. So, let's get the obvious out of the way. I'm Michelle, I live in Spokane, Washington and I love photography.

Now for the not-so-obvious. I'm 26, work for Wal-Mart (yes, I know, the evil Wally World), live with my mother, her fiance and two cats that I take way too many pictures of. I'm not thrilled about the living arrangement, but when I had to leave university due to lack of money, going "home" seemed prudent. At college, I was a crazy person, working toward a double major, double minor (majors were maths and English, minors psychology and computer science). Money ran out about six months before I could have graduated. Bummer.

But, on the plus side, leaving school has allowed me to find a new passion. My best friend got me a D40 with the kit lens for my birthday in July last year. Since then, the camera's become an extension of my arm. Taking pictures is something I do now to de-stress. I just hop in the car and go drive around, snapping anything that catches my fancy.

I came to DPS to improve my skills so someone else might get some enjoyment out of my photos as well. It seems like a great environment to learn in. Everyone I've spoken to so far is supportive and offering words of encouragement as well as ways to improve. Thank you all for the kind words. I really feel at home here.

Default hello

My name is Alan, I live in Long Beach Ca. my experience in photography is mostly film using a Nikon N50, so far my digital photos have been from an Olympus C4000. I just got a Nikon D80.

While I am introducing myself I would like some advice on how exactly to submit images, I tried to submit one earlier today directly from my PC, can it be done, if not how do you have a tutorial on how?

I bought a canon TLB when I was 19 years old. I still have it as a matter of fact. I used to take a lot of pics, some years more than others. But I really have no camera savy at all. I just decided to spend some hard earned money and go all out. I just bought a DVD on the D700 and was blown away with what this camera can do. I just hope I get to use half of what this camera is capable of. Thanks for reply and interest, I think i might like this DPS.

Default Remove the Lens Cap

Pennsylvania, USA here....retired US Army; amateur photographer from way back; love those Roman ruins and Dutch windmills. Looking to desert photography this summer vacation in Nevada. Started with a 35mm Fujica ST801 and now roll with Nikon digital D70s and D300 with several lenses - in fact I just ordered the ProOptic 500mm and hope to use it on vacation. Also shoot with a Sony DSC10 P&S and Canon Vixia video camera...if I can see it I want to record it. I enjoy basketball and woodworking.

Hi Michelle, I was in Marysville, Washington visiting my nephew for the first time visiting Washington State when the biggest storm hit the last year. We couldn't make it in time for our train back home because the road was really bad and we had to fly back the next day. But I love the state for the little scene I've seen and planning on going back this summer. So, Welcome to DPS!

Default Hello

Hello All.

New to the Forum. Always wanted to pick up photography as a hobby but never had the time. Trying to make the time now.
So I picked up a Canon Rebel XSi a couple weeks ago. It came with an EF-S18-55mm IS lense and an EF75-300 f/4-5.6 III USM lense.
At this point I have mainly used the automatic setting for the camera. I have experimented a little with some modes. I'm hoping to find good resources to develop my photo skills.
So any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks Gwen! Marysville area is gorgeous. I miss the coast. Was over there for a few months last year. So sad when I had to leave and come back to the eastern side of the state. Everything that side of the Cascades is lush, green and gorgeous. Over here, the only thing green is sagebrush
