Hi.... to everyone

I'm stanycjw,PETER.

I am from Singapore. I was an Engineer's working in a company at Mountain View Califonia and my last job was a purchasing manager in Sinapore and that was all history. I retired last year and hope to have more shots and share.

I've been interested in photography for a long time. My first camera was an Olympus (OM1- SLR with 35mm film) However I put it down for a while until recently I pick it up again due to my tight work schedule.

My Gear for now is a Canon EOS400D rebel xti, EF18-55mm 28-135 f3.5-5.6 and armed with another Canon EF70-300mm F4-5.6 IS USM telephoto len.
Feeling good back in photography.

I hope to have a good time here to learn and share our experience. I hope to have all support and comments from all.

Regards,
Peter - stanycjw

Hi Saralonde,

Thank you for your warmly welcome! actually, i didn't pick up my film camera about 10 years. I wish I still remember what I did and be able made contribution to this group.
I like digital photography so far. It gives my a lot of convenience over film camera. I would say it sounds like comparing digital painting on computer vs painting on canvas.(I think) anyway, really excited about join in the group.

Hello everyone,

My name's Garrett and I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I'm a first year university student heading towards most likely a chemistry BSc. at the University of Winnipeg, and with no idea what I will do beyond that.

I only took my very first photo a few short months ago, but almost immediately fell in love with photography. Over the past few months I've been spending every possible moment either taking photos, editing those I've already taken, or reading a wide variety of blogs and photo related sites.

I started out with a Canon PowerShot A570 IS point and shoot, and have taken several thousands photos with it. However, just earlier today I bought my very first DSLR, a Pentax K10D that I can tell already I will love very much. Along with the body I got the kit zoom, a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.5 which is nice, though I had initially hoped for a Pentax 50mm f/1.4 prime - this should soon be remedied.

I am very fond of critiquing other's photos and am not afraid to do so, but I also enjoy having my own work gone over with a fine toothcomb. I hope to become a productive member of the DPS community!

Hi all :D

I'm Jonathan from Quebec, Canada. I'm only 15, but I've been into photography for two years now. I started with my parents' old film SLR and my school's blackroom, but now outgrew it and saved up for a DSLR to use on my next trip (to Italy) this spring, after many years of abuse of the family's old Sony Cyber-Shot. Got this one at a bargain too.

My weapons of choice are... well for now the only ones I can afford. I have a Canon Rebel XTi 400d and Canon EF 28-90mm f/4-5.6. It isn't the sharpest, but its focal length makes it a fine learning lens for the price. I'm still in the market for a good (or more importantly, cheap) polarizer.

My favorite types of photography are definitely macro and architecture, but I also like to have fun experimenting. I saw some gorgeous shots here with techniques I hadn't even heard about - rear-curtain flash, for instance - and was hoping I might pick up a thing or two or get crits on my own shots.

'Allo all,

I've posted a few messages here and there on this site and so far it looks like a fine place to spend some time and hopefully grow my hobby. Time to introduce myself!

Like GEli, I hail from Winnipeg, MB Canada.

Although I've had a long interest in photography, it's only this year that I've decided to go all out and grow my skills. Over the past few years I've used a Canon PowerShot A95 as my main camera, having only recently moved to a Canon 400D (or Xti as they insist on labelling it here).

My favourite photography subject is architecture, esp abandoned places where people once occupied a great deal of time which now stands empty. The right photo can return a bit of life to such places...and tell a story. I generally like subjects which people normally pass over as ordinary and don't give a second thought to.

Looking forward to getting to know people on this board!

-Brad

Planetandrea Hi Andrea! It really doesn't matter what kind of camera you have - we have people with about every type there is here - just a desire to improve your photography. Love seeing your shots, lovely self-portrait!

Stanycjw Welcome Peter! You must be glad to be here, you introduced yourself 3 times! So welcome, welcome, welcome! Nice to be retired and have time for photography. Nice camera you have; I have a 400D, too.

GEli Hi Garrett. My husband has a masters in chemistry, ended up a dentist, so who knows what you'll do with that degree! Glad you're ok with critiqueing; I think you can learn as much from that as taking shots yourself. Nice lighting in your self portrait.

Jboy Hi Jonathan! Lucky you going to Italy! Tons of potential for great shots there! Glad to see you're making the most of the lens you have. After some time, you'll know what direction you want to take when buying anything else for your camera.

Atlas88 Wow, lots of new 400D owners here! Love your chair shot. Excellent composition.

Well I am Sarah from Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I just got into photography about 4 (?) months ago - meaning seriously learning about it and taking pictures. I am currently doing a 365 challenge on Flickr and am learning a lot about myself and photography.

I currently am using a Nikon D50 and a Canon IXUS 60 as well as a Pentax K1000 SLR and a Polaroid. For an amateur I guess I have a lot of cameras!

I look forward to checking out some of these assignments and learning new stuff!

hey, everyone! i'm jilly, and i've been an owner of a nikon d50 for almost a year now. one of the main reasons i love photography is because it's ever-evolving; there's always something new to learn, sorta like technology, and i think i'll learn a lot here.

my main equipment is my nikon d50 with the 50mm f1.8 lens or the 18-55mm lens. i also have a fisheye adapter, which i love, and a 28-80mm lens, which i rarely use.

Hi, im Anthony. I recently became obsessed with photography and actually dream about it at times. Its pretty wierd, so I got a D80 and now wish I didnt have a day job (middle/high school teacher) so I could shoot all day.
But until I win the lottery or make that big record deal Ill have to shoot on my spare time.

Thumbs up

Hi All;

I am Allen from Ajax, Ontario. I too have trouble putting my camera down since I upgraded last July from film. I work for one of the three big computer companies and truly enjoy taking my camera with me when I am on business travel and spending much of my free time snapping away on landscapes & wildlife.

I currently have a Rebel XTi/400D and a couple of zooms with a small Canon A570 IS for my pocket. We are off to Jamaica next week and really appreciate the tips published and feedback posted in your forums.

I just stumbled upon this thread and think it is a great idea for the community to get to know each other a little bit better! Keep up the great work and look forward to sharing experiences & images with you all.
