Default too many rules stiffle creativity

i get the same feeling....i'm kinda a free spirited type, go with the flow. not really into keeping "tidy". i asked for a couple of critiques and all i got was a "read the rules" response. which, when i read them, seemed i had followed. i looked at some other peoples posts and they too had the same "read the rules" response and they too seemed to have the "required" details. maybe i don't need a critique after all.

Did you post the EXIF data for your images? It's pretty important so people can understand how you arrived at the result, and suggest what to change to alter the results (image too soft around the edges + large aperture in EXIF = shallow DOF, suggestion would be to stop down the aperture, for example).

Posting an image and saying "please critique" is like saying "how do I get to Los Angeles, CA". If you don't know if I'm driving, flying, taking the train, and where I live, you can't really help me.

I am fine with the infraction, but sending hitmen out to perform infarctions on people, is this the Paparnazi's? I think restricting the blood flow to ones body parts to cause them to die is tough treatment for a forum breach of ettiquette!!
Yikes. My brain is hurting after this....

not too hard to read a few of the forum rules, and then all of us can play fair. I'm all for that.

I do not think I have only tried one (though perhaps this is useful that the moderator, or have a lot of people behind me). I think its just a reminder if you have forgotten, it would be very complicated, the system is to find out if you included all the necessary information.

It is ridiculous the amount of posts I see where people cannot follow very simple rules. The excuse of being "new" is not a crutch to lean on. The information is there for everyone to see and follow in plain sight.

I think the mods should simply delete all posts that do not follow the forums rules and guidelines while also giving the user a check mark in the "naughty" book. After enough infractions, they should simply be banned. This also holds true for some individuals who constantly bicker back and forth or flat out slam each other.

I joined this forum to hopefully gain a lot of valuable info from responsible adults. Not feel like I am in a virtual daycare center at times. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy this site and have seen some great work, met some great people, and learned many new things.

Ummm, please excuse my ignorance but what does 'px' stand for and how do I know when I have reached the 800 mark? and please excuse me if I have asked this question in the wrong place......my total worldly experience of 'forums' has been the last 30 minutes.

The abbreviation px stands for pixels. How you tell depends on the software you have to hand but every image editing and viewing program I can think of will be able to give you this information.

However, note that the present limit is 740px on the longest side. The problem with a long-running thread like this is that the rules do change from time to time. The limit became 740px when a layout change to the site meant that large images caused problems with how the images fitted with other elements of the page (and also an 800x800 image is a lot larger than a 740x740 one, which could be an issue for anyone on limited or pay-per-MB bandwidth).

Always check the FAQ for the current rules of the site.

Hello Wulf,

I have incurred an infraction does this mean I can reply to threads but not post a new one until the period is up?

Thank you,

Best wishes
Graeme

Graeme, an infraction is just a warning. It will be up in 5 - 10 days. I believe you can start a new thread.
