seems like radio is much better than infra red yes/no?
i have a nikon d3100 and want to upgrade (leaning to nikon D700) but still considering canon 5D Mark II....i need to get some more equipment...i just got a great tripod now i need flash stuff...i asume i shouldn't by a nikon flash without being certain that i am going to stay with nikon ( that 800 nikon looks good though)...any suggestions for good non nikon/canon flash?? |

Even if you go 3rd party, for TTL function, you're still going to have to get one that's compatible with the system you're shooting. It's kind of like lenses that way. If you want to go all-manual, though, Lumopro LP160 or Yongnuo YN-560 could work, but they're substantially different beasts from their TTL-capable brethren. The all-manual gear is cheaper, but you don't care about cost, because you're contemplating going full frame. That costs a ton in terms of lenses. ![]() Radio triggers are better for reliability, range, and not requiring line-of-sight, but become really expensive when you want TTL capability. If you're shooting indoors, want all the extra TTL bells'n'whistles (like high-speed sync), and already have a master unit in your camera's pop-up flash and an OEM speedlight, then infrared is undoubtedly the path of least resistance and the most features. So, "better" depends on how you're planning on using the flash, and what equipment you have. And whether or not you want a speedlight, a monolight, or a pack'n'heads is also something you might want to consider if you're seriously getting into lighting gear, and not just trying to collect one of every type of camera equipment. ![]() Seriously. Decide what system(s) you're shooting, first.
