Default Posting of info gained at seminar/workshop/class?

THIS thread brought up a very interesting issue.

Grace shared information on DPS that she learned through a webinar (free).

Jim brought up the point of whether (or not) it was a copyright violation.

So... let's share ideas, but preferably facts , about whether or not posting a summary of ideas/facts/tips/etc gained at a workshop or course or web/seminar on a website such as DPS is allowed as per copyright laws/principles.

Does it matter how diluted/generalized her points were?

Does the presenter need to stipulate copyright at the seminar or does it exist (as Jim poses) at the point of its creation, just like a photograph?

Any other issues/details related to this will contribute to the topic, so thanks!
Enjoy!

As long as it isnt copy and pasting of the text and just discussing the content of the seminar, I would then say its wide open
Discussions are not copyrighted

I agree. If it's copy pasta then you could be in trouble. Otherwise, when Jim or BF tells someone to point their flash up, then they would be in copyright violation of the book that they read the technique in.

I'd say that it was the course that was in issue not the content. So if someone setup a course, free/paid online or physical that followed the exact same syllabus, teaching style and structure, then that would be a problem.

When you read a good book, is it ilegal to give a summary to your friends?

Exactly! Look at this like a book review. There are standards and limitations on what can be disclosed in a review. In some cases, right down to how many words.

I'm seeing that one of the (probably many) issues here may come down to the specificity and detail that is included in the summary/sharing of the original information.

I think he's saying it could be illegal to take copious notes in great detail and then posting them somewhere for the world to see. Right?
