Default no camera for a while :(

My good camera (the nikon D3000) is eating up my memory cards and rendering them useless. The card is getting stuck all the way down, and the only way to get it out is with a tweezer. This is a defect in the camera, not the card. I don't know when I'll be able to get such a thing fixed. I'm majorly bummed. I got back my old Canon Powershot A1000 from my niece who's been borrowing it since I got the Nikon. Besides being a point and shoot, it is the tiniest thing, like the size of a pack of Kingsize cigarettes. It's not even like using a real camera. I'm so disgusted. This stuck card syndrome happened back in June, but for some reason it worked till now. Go figure. I'm thankful I at least have something to take pictures with, but it's certainly not the camera I can MAKE pictures with. There's not even a Tv or Av setting on it... just auto and P, with lots of other icons. Is that really possible? to leave out such a basic thing? Who knows where the manual for this this is. This is feeling like a huge loss at the moment.
Just needed to rant a little. Thanks.

Having to take what feels like a step backwards with your camera can be really frustrating.
Are you going to be able to get your Nikon fixed? Is it fixable???

Nikon (or the repair service you use) will simply pull the memory card slot unit and replace it. Probably about a $150 repair, but it should be covered by a warranty.

Sell your D3000 noting the problem with the card. You won't get much for it, but then get a D3100, you'll be very pleased you did!

God knows what I'd do without a camera, I feel lost if it's not within easy reach..

Sounds like a challenge to me - you know, to prove that it's not the gear but photographer that makes the images challenge I actually think it may be personally interesting to see what you can do/achieve with the limitations of your point and shoot. It may also be a relief not to worry about the technical aspects of shooting and just concentrate on content for a little while?

What do you think?

I'm not sure if this is your manual but some functions seem interesting.

That's a tough break. I might inquire with Nikon to see about getting it repaired. LOL on the Powershot ("that's not a camera!". I have a Powershot something or other too. Use it once in a while, but I'm so spoiled by the dSLR's immediate response & adjustability, that I rarely ever take it out.

I will try to make lemonade! Just need time to get past the horror of it all.
Thanks everyone for your sympathies and suggestions. $150 repair will have to wait awhile, as I'm on a fixed income, but it's good to know such a thing is possible.
Thanks, Phoeni, for the manual link, I'll check that out now.
