Default Networking Forum?

Is there a networking forum? If so, why not have one?

I would like to post myself a topic in a networking forum saying open to network (meet/greet) in X location at X time/date for collaboration projects or even help each other being photographer assistants or possibly even as retouchers, or location hunters, etc...

I have a project in mind that is conceptual photography (in model photography), and requires a bit of man power (photographer assistants) and at least 3-4 people, excluding myself. Finding the right people is very difficult and I dont really want to use other places like Model Mayhem, craigslist, etc...

The nearest we have is photowalks. It doesn't quite fit but is probably the best option for now. If lots of people want to do this kind of thing, a new subforum would be worthwhile but not if there are only a few requests.

Sorry Wulf, but we do have a Networking section. It's in USER CP and has Contacts and Friends, Social Groups and Pictures and Albums.

Its probably underused but it is a great feature that should have more focus.

Cheers,

You have to go looking for that though. I think Chris wants to throw up a message that people would see when just keeping up to date with the site.

It does seem like sort of a chicken-or-the-egg problem. If the section in the user CP isn't really used by anyone, it's not going to serve the purpose Chris is looking for, no matter how well-suited it is to the task. Reading this thread, it makes me wonder if some of our "FB thread" or "500px thread" posts couldn't be handled in the same way, but probably weren't for exactly the same reasons.

It also seems like Chris' request is more appointment-based than group-based. I was thinking "meetups", but even that isn't quite right -- he's really looking for help on specific assignments, if I'm reading correctly.

I think one more thread won't hurt.. Lots of people, like me, want to just meet up and natter or do something less formal than a "photo walk".. I think it's a good idea.. Although I think "Networking" is a bit "Formal" for a name.. How about "Coffee anyone?" and then explain what the thread is for in the sticky??

It might be possible to retitle "Photo Walks" to include "... and Meet-ups".

sounds okay with me... I don't use photo walks right now anyways.

Any photography "clubs" in your area Chris, or even Flickr groups?

with cash... of course. But with no cash.. nope. Hence is why I try hard on model mayhem, and facebook to network as much as possible... not much luck in the past 4-5 months of hard networking on them.

Flickr groups, eh... they only do well and active on the photo pools, nothing else. The ones that are popular are national or world-wide groups not local.
