I agree with that. Time is the biggest enemy over here ;-)

Having a copy in RAW is just like having a backup.
Good to know I am not very happy with the JPEG output from my camera. Well, they don't look that bad by themselves, but once I started shooting RAW+JPEG and comparing both files straight from the camera, the RAW version looked so much better..and that's even before I start doing some adjustments.

Well to be honest, I shoot in both, although some of the time i just shoot in JPGs, and no questions ask, when I'm shooting snapshots (friends dinner and so on...) I ussually shoot in JPG, but when I'm looking seriously for a shot, a special, or well prepared, ALWAYS I shoot is RAW.

Actually this is also my approach

I had to look and see if I had replied already in this thread, but it appears it was a different thread on the same subject.

I shoot in RAW + JPG. Why? Because I can do a quick glance through the .jpg files to see which ones are worth keeping; with RAW files, I'd have to open each & every one of them in photoshop, and that would take far too long. Plus, I don't necessarily want to post-process every single shot.

If I keep the photo, I'll keep both the .jpg and the RAW file - I may not want to play with it now, but I might want to play with it later. Yes, it takes up more space on the memory card (I use a 2GB, which means I get about 100 total photos), but that just means I either 1) carry a spare card with me, and/or 2) get more selective on which photos I take, and make sure I spend the time to properly compose them.

Hmm. Does Olympus not have some software that will view RAW files in a "light-table" format? I use the free View NX by Nikon to sort my RAW files into keepers, maybes, and trash. I can view them as thumbnails of various sizes, and then send them to be processed in another application like Capture NX or Photoshops Element's editor.

If Olympus doesn't then I can understand why you would do that. It would be a lot easier, although I think even Photoshop Element's album will do the same thing with RAWs. Can Adobe Bridge not use the embedded JPEG for thumbnail previews? It certainly appears that Lightroom can do so.

Just honestly curious as I don't have any experience with Olympus' equipment or supplied software.

Lightroom treats RAWs more or less just like it treats JPGs. There really isn't much difference. The only thing you might want to do after importing RAW is to convert to DNG, which is more standard than your prorietary camera RAW format, and also adds lossless compression.

I think on same way... if the photo is special I shoot in RAW.
