Default Just need to rant

There are these two girls who are "Besties" as they put it (I knew them in highschool. They are both in grade 11 now I think?) Anywho, they have both decided they are now professional photographers! I asked them what camera they shot with, one replied with "One of the little digital one's" and the other with "Um, I don't know, I would have to look at it."

Now, I'm all for people wanting to learn about photography and even pick it up as a hobby, maybe a career someday, but to go around calling yourself professional. It ticks me off. I don't even call my self one, and I have been doing photography for a while, and worked in a photo studio (Granted it was a chain corporation, haha, most anyone could probably work there.)

Just thought I would rant. :0P Blah!

It's really not worth sweating over. What two school girls?

I agree with Rachel. I seriously doubt they'll have much success. They'll probably charge their high school buddies $20 to take Facebook pictures for them.

I totally understand where you are coming from with this rant.

Sure, it is nothing to get all hot and bothered over.......but deep down inside it still pisses me off for things like this -- even if they are not competition. It's just the principle

It absolutely kills me. I have a "friend" who likes to make himself sound smart..."The F number is the size of the sensor" (Yes he actually said that ) It drives me completely nuts.

And ya, it may make you want to rip their heads off, but don't sweat it, it affects you not.

I am not a pro photographer, but I think I understand where it would piss people off. I have people come in the salon all the time and ask are you hiring groomers, when I ask what experience they have they say oh none I just always thought it would be fun. Yeah cause the years I spent training don't mean anything, you can pick up a pair of clippers and magically become a dog groomer.

I have had people offer to pay me to do family photos, and I always say up front, I am not a professional,I would love to do pics for you but you aren't going to get the quality you would from someone who has been doing this professionally for years.

+1 Totally agree. I am not in the experience professional category yet, but I am trying and I am learning. People like this really undermine those who take it seriously and want to do a good job.

Yes! This exactly. Nothing I got super upset over, just deep down, it bothered me. I mean, couldn't they at least be able to tell me what camera they are using? At least!
