Hi!
I have been unfortunate to get some postings moderate (removed). But I am at a loss as to why? Granted I might have skipped a full read of the critique forum rules in their entirety, but I don't see why at least my last posting should have been removed, posting an image for critique in the "other" section, as I am not quite clear on what other section might fit it. (A guy sitting on a stone next to his bike, on a beach, looking out over the ocean) being unsure if the image have general appeal or if it is just me who likes it (I am very bad at judging my own work) I would however like to know what I have done wrong in my posting to get it removed? Also on a more general note about this, would it not be prudent to have the moderators give a note in private messages to posters who get their posts removed? I am not talking about starting a discussion with said person or giving a lengthy explanation, but something like "Removed post X from forum Y because your picture of a cat does not belong in landscapes" or similar. That way I could easily see what I had done wrong and don't end up repeating that mistake. |

There often is some short note posted but it does depend on time. If you happen to make a mistake and I've recently logged on and already corrected three other mistakes, should I:
(a) ignore it (b) zap it without any follow up (c) correct the mistake and follow up with a clear and polite message explaining why I know that if it is YOUR picture, the answer is always going to be (c) but that means I can only look at DPS when I have ample time to spare to follow up anything I find and so, in effect, ends up like (a). We do try and cut people some slack, especially if they are new on the site, but it will take you less time to read the critique rules than for a mod to give a personalised explanation and you to politely acknowledge and respond that contact. The easiest way to answer that is to have you read the forum rules and then ask yourself if you followed them by posting the correct size and did you include the information that was asked for? Did you post more than once in a 24 hour period?

I remember way back in grade school on the first day of class the teach gave us a page full of instructions and instructed the class to read all the instructions before they started answering questions. The questions where mostly personal questions like your favorite color, food but there were also some math questions.
I must have been the only student to actually read all the instructions before I started answering the questions because the very last question said. This entire assignment is is how well you read instructions throughly before starting. If you have reached this part with out answering any questions please sit quietly and entertain yourself while others who can't read waste time answering questions which I will later throw in the trash. As the class went on you could hear sighs and oh mans coming from students as they reach the last question. The teacher then collected all the homework and gave everyone who answered any questions a F while students who just sat around and did nothing got an A. Needless to say I thought it was a great exercise probably the only thing I ever remembered about grade school. So in short, read the instructions (rules) there are only like 5 rules.

On a personal note I usually always send a PM unless it's someone with lots of posts who obviously didn't put any effort into reading the rules.

Ofcause I can see it from the moderator's side aswell, after all I am not new to internet forums (Or indeed pre-internet forums) and I do "RTFM" to what I consider a normal degree. Which is also why I am asking this.
I have had posts removed that I can't find any good explanation to (Even when reading thoroughly through the rules and being very self critical) and I am at a loss to what I did wrong. |

I had a quick look, but all of them have been oversized images. We ask that you post images smaller than 740px on the longest side so that they fit the forum.

Ah ya, I checked that, but I failed to check that the resized ones in my gallery was actually smaller. Won't make that mistake in the future.
A pm on the first moderation saying "Image too big" and I would not have failed the same way twice. So it would still be nice with an ever so short message. If the forum back-end could be made so it was no inconvenience to do so (Supplying a reason field that was posted to OP would be nice) |
