Hi and welcome,
Ya sure that lens would work but as with anything there are some tradeoffs. At 14mm you will get a pretty wide view, probably get some perspective distortion if you tilt the camera too much. You'll need to be pretty much right on top of people if you want anything other than a nice wide panoramic shot. For doing enviornmental shots, the banquet room, wide view of the church, the reception dance floor it will probably be just the ticket...

If you do get right on topof people, you'll really distort them so watch out for that

Sorry, but that would be a bad choice for a walk around lens for a wedding.

I would think that an EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS may be a better choice. It will allow realitively wide angle, but also get some good close ups as well. Great lens for a crop body.

Cheers,

John W

I think a wide angle is a great lens for a wedding. Just, don't let it be your ONLY lens as it's way too limited and it's difficult to get those nice photos with shallow Depth of Field. I always bring a 24-70 and 70-200 my nifty 50/1.8 and 15-30mm sigma which was used for the below shots.

I use my wide angle to capture the whole venue for the fun party photos after the ceremony. The funky distortions really add to the feeling and is different than the usual. Just try to not have too many people near the edges.
CRAP - sorry about large images, not sure how to make them smaller!

Clearly you've never shot a wedding, but thanks for playing.

The trouble with that is the f3.5 aperture would be a killer, let alone f5.6 when you go in for those close ups!

Good one Os,

Your posts are generally enlightening and worthwhile and I have enjoyed reading them over the time I've been here. But in this case, you have to read the question and respond accordingly.

You shot from the hip Mate. Sure a wide angle lens is great and you can shoot the bride in the car at 12-14mm, but you cannot expect that that focal range is going to be the be all and end all at a wedding.

If you have two cameras and two shooters and a variety of lens, you can cover most options. I dont think this subscriber had anything like this.

Give them a break and offer advice that is USEFUL.

And do not be presumptuous to think think that you are the font of all knowledge.

Cheers,

John W

I was going to say, "The EF-S 18-135mm is a great lens? Hmm."
